With the hikes in gas prices, and the possibility of them remaining high, people are looking for alternative sources of fuel. People get sick of filling up their tanks, and seeing the costs constantly going higher and higher. The nice thing about that is maybe they are going to start conserving or find another way to travel. Budget is very much the determining factor in why most people do anything. Provided that they have enough cash, they aren't that concerned about wasting it. The people mostly behind the move for new energy sources are the ones who are more concerned with the environment and what petroleum-based fuel is doing to it. Not having them, there almost certainly wouldn't be cars running on electricity, or hybrids of both gasoline and electric, or even solar-powered.
A number of cars are even using water in addition to their gas in water-to-gas technology. Increasingly more car manufacturers are making vehicles that go on different fuels for a variety of reasons. The governments in several countries, especially in Europe, have placed crushing taxes on fuels and are considering placing even greater restrictions on greenhouse gas emissions. Our environment is becoming increasingly loaded with greenhouse gases such as the carbon dioxide which is produced when we drive our vehicles. Consequently, climate change and global warming are developing because of the way the earth's temperature is increasing due to the emission of greenhouse gases.
Hybrid cars, as well as cars that run on ethanol, fuel cells, solar power, and other alternative fuel sources, have been designed. LPG is liquefied petroleum, and cars which operate on it, are using a mixture of propane and butane. It can potentially slice fuel costs in half compared to standard fuel by using hydrocarbon gases that are compressed and then liquefied. Some cars utilize solar power to create the electricity to power the motor or manufacture alternate fuels such as hydrogen. You can usually get the solar panels, that convert the sun's energy into electricity, on the roof of the vehicle.
Ethanol is a fairly unique fuel that is created from sugar, plant juice or grains such as wheat. Brazil has been using sugar cane to create ethanol for almost 40 years and has saved $1.8 billion in oil costs to date. Brazil has manufactured 5.4 million cars that operate on ethanol and is exporting them to Japan and Sweden. Almost one million jobs have been created, and toxic emissions have been reduced by 30% since this industry began.
The best clean cars would be those running on hydrogen, since their only emissions are heat and water vapors, quite environmentally friendly. Hybrids, including the Toyota Prius, apply two different energy sources, combining a small gas engine with an electric motor. Dealing with environmental problems and increasing fuel costs are two reasons to explore alternative energy sources.
