This time represent the golden years of the solar energy sector. The technology which was once far too expensive for most homeowners to pay for now is certainly not. This is owing to many government programs provided that you set about installing solar power systems on your own house in a certain manner.
The difficulty with photo voltaic for residences has been the upfront cost. You are going to shell out between $15,000 and $30,000 up front. That's a a small fortune for just about anyone. Until government incentives emerged, it was simply too much and the industry suffered.
The good news is the government made it a policy to promote renewable energy. Solar power was included in this, obviously. The end result has been the government will give out tax credits, loan guarantees and other financial assistance to defer the up front cost. This has made solar energy available to millions who other wise would not be able to afford it.
Do these incentives come with any catches? Of course. The idea is to promote the energy platforms, so most require the home owner to meet certain guidelines. These range from the type of systems bought to their use.
The first prerequisite is you must exclusively use the incentives with brand spanking new systems. The point, again, is to support the industry. Similar to hybrid cars, used systems don't qualify for the incentive programs, so don't waste your money on them.
The second requirement has to do with the use of the system. Specifically, the system must be used to create heat or electricity for the primary home. Panel systems used to heat the pool, for instance, do not qualify.
Finally, one also has to use certified installers to get the incentives. The government is trying to promote job growth through the renewable energy industry. If you try to install the panels yourself, you will miss out on the potential huge incentives that can save you so much.
Is complying with all of this well worth the effort? Definitely. The incentives which are now offered by federal governments, state governments, municipalities and perhaps local utility companies in your area will save you most or all the cost of buying a solar panel system. That definitely makes the additional effort worth it.
