There's a lot of opinions when it comes to going green and by buying green cleaning products. Many people think that this is simply an unnecessary expense. But the truth is that cleaning products are marketed for us to buy way more than we need.
All it takes is a few simple ingredients, and you can clean your whole home. Not to mention the fact that you could even make green cleaning products yourself from scratch - for a fraction of the price! It really isn't too hard to take the first steps to go green.
What is so Bad About Commercial Cleaning Products?
There is actually no law forcing manufacturers to label all of the ingredients that go into our cleaning products, which is why it's very shocking to hear that a number of the ingredients haven't even been tested for safety on humans!
We do consume the cleaning products we use, if indirectly. Every night when we sleep in those clean sheets we are absorbing the washing powder we chose to wash them with. And when we spray anti-bacterial sprays in our kitchens, they are contaminating the air.
These ingredients are then sent into the environment through our water. The truth is these chemicals are not necessary for effective cleaning, so we don't need to use them anymore.
Choose Eco Options Instead
If you want to start going green today then I am not about to tell you to go out and buy the most expensive products. Wait a while until you've used up the products you do have, and then set aside the plastic spray bottles they come in so that they can store the recipes you make yourself.
Did you know that a simple mix of vinegar and bicarbonate of soda can clean away mold and lime scale? Or that lemon juice can get rid of stains on your chopping board? It really is that simple!
You might not have the time to create all of your cleaning products from scratch, and if that's the case then try buying eco-friendly brands like eCover. While this may cost more, you can save money by buying in bulk. There are also natural laundry options that can last around a thousand washes, ultimately working out a lot cheaper than your current detergent!
To make things easier, you can make these changes gradually and still make a difference. In a short amount of time you'll be left wondering why you ever needed to rely on toxic cleaning products in the first place!
