The original Apple Ipad started setting the Ipad far apart from all other tablets on the market. Both Ipads are eco-friendly including being PVC free, recyclable, and include a mercury free LCD display. Past generations haven't had this much contact with electronics and we may only see the results in decades to come of electronics that are not eco-friendly. If you are going to be in close contact with a phone or computer for long periods of time this is a real consideration to think about in the new electronics generation.
