We've all heard the stories about all the bad things that can happen if global warming ramps up. Even a couple of degrees change in the global temperature can spell disaster. However it seems like one of those thing that we can't do anything about, that we have to rely on governments around the world to deal with. That's not true though, because most people are in a position to start using solar energy.
Solar Power For Houses
The best way for individuals to make use of solar power at the moment is to have panels on their roof. When enough people do that it will make a big difference. It makes a bit of a difference each time someone does that, but the reason it is so useful is because then they will be able to power their whole home with energy from the sun.
This article is not going to go in to how it is that solar cells are actually capable of turning light energy into electrical energy, but if you're interested that is an intriguing topic as well. All that you have to understand, and it is not difficult to, is that the more renewable energy you use, the less non-renewable energy you have to utilise. And it is with the non-renewable kind that the problems arise.
The Way Global Warming Works
By now most people probably have a pretty good idea about the process that brings about global warming. It's not important to understand the details though, all that it is necessary to know is that it comes about through the burning of fossil fuels. That's because they release carbon dioxide into the air, which is a greenhouse gas. That means that when the sun's rays bounce off the Earth, the heat is kept in the atmosphere by things like carbon dioxide.
So why don't we simply stop using fossil fuels? The answer is that we cannot, not without absolutely decimating economies. In fact a lot of this energy goes in to the production of food, so if we simply stopped then a lot of people would starve. And as the population is still increasing, we actually need more economic growth in order to keep up with it all.
What we need to do, therefore, is find a way to drastically reduce the amount of fossil fuels we are burning without using less energy. For this, the answer is quite simple, we need a clean energy source. That means using a lot more renewable energy, which comes from the natural process on the planet, like wind, flowing water and of course the Sun. There is no other way out of the predicament that we are now in.
How To Afford Solar Panels
The only thing that stops most people from using solar panels to generate energy for their homes is the issue of cost. This comes back to economic matters again, because if people cannot afford them then there is no way that they are going to be able to use them. Fortunately though there has been some progress in that regard, because the government has now offering an incentive for people to get solar cells installed.
The government is not doing anything about how much they cost to begin with, so if you cannot afford the installation then you will not be able to get involved. If you can afford that though, then you can be sure of getting your money back and then some. That's because when you use solar energy now, you are paid for the energy your solar panels produce. So you'll be able to pay off the cost for that within 8 years, instead of the 25 years it would take with savings on energy bills alone. There is now a possibility for many more people to join the fight against global warming.
