The few people who still doubt that the planet is undergoing a serious state of climate change are in a tiny minority of their own. Leading scientists from around the world have all looked at the research (and many have conducted their own research) and concluded that climate change is a very real problem. Many scientists even suggest that trying to stop climate change or reverse the decline is impossible. Is there any point then in even trying to slow climate change?
Many people suggest that our unsustainable use of fossil fuels has got to be drastically reduced as soon as possible. Alternative forms of energy, created by harnessing the power of water or wind, must be generated at much greater levels. But this is easier said than done.
The appeal of solar energy however lies in the fact that any homeowner, business or organisation can get involved in creating their own electricity through the simplicity of having solar panels installed onto their roof or walls. Despite Britain not being a particularly sunny country, the panels can still generate a considerable amount of energy that would cover a great deal of its electricity needs.
In fact, when Britain is at its sunniest, some homes could be powered entirely by the electricity generate by their solar panels. If every home could generate this much power Britain's carbon emissions would fall greatly - just imagine if every country got involved in the same way. Government incentives have been put in place to encourage homeowners to take part in the scheme, making ambitious targets for lowering carbon emissions seem realistic.
Solar energy along won't be enough to reverse a worrying trend, however it is one way that everyone can get involved in being more environmentally conscious. So the impact that solar energy has on helping the environment should not be dismissed - it is only by using every available solution that we can hope to successfully tackle climate change.
