A solar panel is a surface that can produce energy. This energy does not require any type of fuel, it is not polluting and on top of all these, it's free and renewable. The solar panels used today are devices which can capture and transform sun power in other energy forms, that we use everyday. The solar panels can be divided into two big categories:
- Heating panels. These panels mainly heat up houses and water sources.
- The solar panels that include a special technology for producing electricity.
Solar panels that are used for heating purposes are generally used for home heating. Their simplified functioning process in the following: the panels capture solar heat and transfer it through some tubes to a water flow. Therefore, the water is heated and can then be used or stocked for later using. There systems are especially useful in areas that are situated far away from civilization, where regular water heating is unavailable, but the owner must be ready to make a small investment at first.
It's the panels that are used to capture electricity the interesting ones. This whole process is based on the photovoltaic cell. There's no question if the panels are beneficial of not, because they furnish free electricity for our every day needs. But they don't come cheap, because they require some initial investment. With the passing of time, the initial costs will be amortized. And let's not forget that solar panels are ecologic, and since out natural reserves are already almost finished, we should take a moment and think about our future.
A current disadvantage of solar panels is that they are not very efficient if they are too small. For the complete powering of an average to small home, you need almost a hundred square meters of solar panels.
