There are times when medical establishments find themselves questioning humanity. This usually happens after a particularly stressful day when the office has seemed to have a higher than normal number of patients who failed to show up for their appointments. The more no-shows the office has to deal with, the crankier the staff gets. The worse thing about no shows is that they cost to office an alarming amount of lost revenue.
No-shows might not be a big deal if the office only had to deal with one or two "Did Not Attends" during the course of a fiscal year, but most offices find that they have at least one missed appointment a day. If each no show costs the office one hundred dollars in lost revenue, which means the office will lose two thousand dollars a month. No business can afford to stay in business with that kind of loss. The sheer amount of money that missed appointments costs health clinics is why many of them have started to use software that will send out a patient reminder when the patients appointment date starts to approach. The reminder usually goes out between 72 and 24 hours before the actual appointment time.
It is natural for an office manager to have reservations when it comes to purchasing an automated front desk receptionist for the hospital. Even the simplest programs can be expensive. It is normal for the administrative manager to worry that even after they have spent all that money on a new program, they still will not be able to get their patients to show up. Most medical service centers cannot believe how much their no shows decreased once they purchased the program and started to use automatic appointment reminders. As soon as they see the different it makes they find themselves wondering why they ever waited so long in the first place.
The reason that appointment reminders work is because the patients are not intentionally skipping the appointments, they do not mean to become did not attends, it is because they have genuinely forgot about it. The reminder jogs their memory and reminds them that they have a commitment. There are times when the patient still will not be able to make it, they have booked something else, but at least they will be able to give the health clinic a call and cancel the appointment which is still preferable to having them fail to show up at all.
While it is true that the appointment reminder will help optimize the financial situation of the office, it is also going to cause some stress when it is first set up. Like all things that are new, learning how to use the new program is going to be trying. The best thing that the office manager can do when things get sticky is to take a deep breath and then call the tech support department for a little help. While the first few days with the new program are going to be rough, once the office manager understands the ins and outs of the program they will wonder how they got by without it.
