A lot of people will claim they don't consume too much electricity without actually considering their habits. Numerous folks are not even aware that they're consuming too much electric power because it is so common. I wish to talk about some general habits that use up a lot of electricity, and what you can do to correct them.
I am not trying to blame anyone, but I see this day in and day out with women. When the laundry is finished, and the clothes have been run through the dryer, sometimes the load is forgotten for several hours, or even until the next day. When this happens, many clothes ordinarily look rather wrinkled when they're taken out. But then, rather than simply taking the clothes that are crumpled and ironing them, they turn the dryer back on for half an hour, hoping the wrinkles will go away. Compared to an iron, a dryer consumes a great amount of power, which is altogether wasted when your clothes are already dry.
Nevertheless, women are not alone when it comes to wasting power with careless routines. Men, for one reason or another, seem to possess a one track mind. The men may be in the garage busily working on something and leave to go grab something and leave all the lights switched on in the garage, and maybe even the radio. That is not the most crucial problem, however. Forgetting all about the lights they left on, and the radio, a lot of men will head off to do something else for the remainder of the day. At least, until they have to return to the garage for something and then they find out that everything is still turned on.
Something I am guilty of, and I am quite certain 90% of you readers are guilty of also, is leaving lights turned on. How many times have you awakened in the morning while it is still dark and turned on a few lights? This is a perfectly fair use of electricity. However, as the sun comes up and daylight enters the windows, what should you do? Unless you turn the lights off when the sun comes up, they can stay on for a few hours, wasting electricity. Lots of people forget the lights are switched on when they are home but on the other hand, most people will walk through the house before they leave to make sure everything is off, which is good.
We all have reckless habits that consume too much power, which costs us money out of our pockets but also puts more strain on the environment than is necessary. A smart habit to develop is to always switch off the light when you leave a room. One other good habit is to use an iron to touch up wrinkled clothes and leave the dryer off after the clothes are done drying. Make a habit of switching off the lights when you leave your garage, even if you're certain you'll return right away.
