When a product, such as a car, motorcycle, home appliance or any electronic product reaches the end of its life, it's often sold for scrap. Scrap metal is not waste, in fact it is of significant monetary value since it can be recycled and converted into other industrial products.
It is a known fact that a car has an average life span of around ten to fifteen years. After this, the vehicle may start to cause enough problems for the owner for him or her to consider buying a new one. Finding the vehicle of your choice may prove to be quite easy. However, what most people don't think about is as to what they are going to do with the old one.
It is estimated that over ten million cars may require disposal throughout the world every year because they have reached the end of their life. These cars are often left in driveways or sold to scrap dealers who may not dispose it off legally. Pouring oils and brake fluids into drains and leaching of heavy metals and toxins into the ground is a commonly occurring scenario in such cases.
When these vehicles are not properly disposed, it can cause air pollution as well as contamination of the water that we drink. This is bound to have a negative impact on the health of the present as well as the future generation. So, what is the right way to get rid of your old car? The answer is to locate a scrapper who will take care that the scrap metal is legally disposed.
Once you get in touch with a wrecker, the scrap metal would be removed from the house and taken to a wrecking yard. Here, customers may come looking for certain parts that they may be able to use in their own vehicles.
Some of these parts will be sold if a customer is willing to pay a price that is acceptable for the scrap dealer.
If different parts of a vehicle cannot be sold on an individual basis, the scrap yard may just sell it off weight. This is bought by a smelter who would pay a good price to the junk yard, melt the product and convert it into something completely different.
