Compost Bins come in all shapes and sizes. And by composters we're not talking about the uncontrolled pile of leaves and garden waste at the end of a garden. No, we mean a custom-built container engineered to get the job done efficiently.

The classic composter design is a static compost bin with a large lid to make putting waste in it easier and a large door at the base of the drum to get the completed compost out after a few months of composting. That sounds like it should be easy to find a good compost bin but it is a tad more complcated.

Keeping that under consideration check thru these criteria and see what you need for your garden.

Size is the basic criterion when shopping for a composter.. A large garden or a big family will produce a very large quantity of waste to be recycled with a compost bin. A single person household will produce a lot less and that has to think about the scale of the composter they buy.

Material comes next. Old school composters were made with wooden slats.in Some practical and hobby oriented folks are thrilled to use scrap wood and build their own single or double compost boxes. Others want to purchase a composter from a shop or online and choose a material like recycled plastic or galvanised steel. A number of these still need assembly and this needs to be checked before purpose. The task of assembling a complicated bin shipped in flat-pack with multiple parts can be much worse than flatpack furniture. It depends on the design "some are simple to assemble and you are done in a few minutes!

The last basic choice is to tumble or not? A technique to speed up the composting process is to turn the composting bin the other way up or revolve it. The composters designed to try this easily are made from a drum or barrel like a washer and as the drum turns the compost turns too and the waste gets masses of oxygen which is important to the composting process.

Those are the 3 basic questions to answer so you can select the best bin for your garden. The classic design is a static composting bin with a large lid to make putting waste in it less complicated and a large door at the base of the drum to get the completed compost out after a few months of composting.
