A water filtering system will not only give you healthy water, it will taste good, too.

If you are not happy with the water that is coming out of the faucet at your home, it may be time for a water filter system. Not only drinking water is affected by contaminants and pollutants in the water system. If you use a steam iron, you will notice that some kinds of water will cause spots on your clothing when you press them, and the iron will be damaged by certain metals in the water. The same is true for humidifiers; they will not work as well and eventually be ruined by mineral deposits in the water that passes thorough them. If you use a water filter for your water you can avoid this problem, while at the same time, you will have water that tastes better for drinking or making coffee or tea.

If you are a big water drinker, you will definitely have to have a water filter, just as you would want an air cooler if you are always hot. You want to make sure that you are drinking pure water, since the more dangerous contaminants you are drinking, the more harmful it can be to your health. If your water has sediments in it, you can get rid of them, but even if your water looks clean, you may be drinking particles you would rather not be drinking. Bacteria and other such things can be removed from you water supply and keep you healthy. If you have a baby in the family, you definitely want to be using filtered water to mix with formula.

Even if your water supply does not have any contaminants in it, you may consider using a water filter just to make the water taste better. Most water has minerals in it that have their own (sometimes peculiar) taste, and even if the water is clean when it enters the home, it may pick up a taste from particles in the pipes it passes through. Water filters remove all of these particles and make the water taste fresh and clean.

Find out exactly what is in your drinking water by bringing a sample of it to a health department laboratory. There may be a small fee to have this analysis done, but then you will know for sure if you should be filtering your water. You can probably also have your water tested from a company that sells water filters, but they may give you a prejudiced report.

If you want a non biased idea, use a small inexpensive single faucet filter to filter a sample of water and then take that and some unfiltered water to a lab. If there is no difference, you may not want to invest in a filtering system.

When you conduct this experiment, it is a good idea to heat the rim of the faucet that the water is coming from. This will kill bacteria that is on the faucet that may give a false reading to the test. After heating, let the water run so that you are passing it through a faucet that does not have bacteria on it, and you will get a more realistic idea of what is in your water supply.
