Each year, many cities and towns experience flooding. There are a few rules to follow if your city is ever flooded. If you're in your car, don't drive over flood waters. If you're outside, don't swim or walk through flood waters. In fact, it is best to stay in your house if you can. It's also very important to remember not to drink flood water. If you are thirsty, you must find clean water.
Flood waters are contaminated and cause diseases, such as melioidosis, dengue fever, leptospirosis and diarrhoeal. Public Health Medical Officer Dr. Margaret Young, of Queensland Health, says that floods also create an increased risk of dermatitis, wound infections, and ear, nose and throat infections, especially for those who directly contact the water.
While many people know to stay away from flood waters, they do not always realize that flooding affects tap water too. Many community officials recommend that people boil their water before drinking or using it for cooking. For some, though, they do not have electricity to boil. Others either don't hear the warning or don't mind taking their chances with regular tap water.
For a situation like this, the best thing you can have is a gravity water filter. A powerful filtration system will remove all contaminants from the water so you don't have to worry about getting sick. It doesn't require boiling or electricity to work, either.
Before purchasing a filter, you must make sure it removes all the toxins that could leak into the water supply due to a flood. It is also good to have one that sits on your countertop so you can just fill it up and have clean water within a few minutes.
If a flood ever happens in your neighborhood, you need to be prepared. Don't risk getting sick due to flood waters. You and your family will drink clean water all the time if you have your own gravity water filter.
